How to register your smart card
Smart cards issued by EPO (the European Patent Office) can be used for online filing of patent document at PRV using the eOLF and PCT-SAFE software utilities. All smart cards must be registered before they can be used for online filing at PRV. The registration is completed in just a few minutes and then you may instantly start filing patent documents. Filing of a registration form in paper format is no longer required.
You need to have received your PIN code from the EPO before you may register your smart card.
Make sure the smart card is inserted in the reader and that all proper software drivers for the smart card reader are installed. Depending on which web browser version that is being used a certificate error may arise, if this happens choose “Continue to this webpage”. You may also have to choose the option “Run this program as an administrator”.
Once you've successfully registered your smart card you will have instant access to the service and you can start using the Online Filing software and file to this office.
It is possible to use the same smart card for filing different kinds of patent documents. If you have previously registered your smartcard for being able to file e.g. PCT-applications online to PRV, it is not necessary to make a new registration for filing e.g. SE-applications.
