The Patent Department handles national and international patent applications, and develops and maintains the patent system in Sweden. Through international partnerships, we ensure a Swedish influence on international development. It is also the department's task to spread information about the patent system.

The department includes a resource organization with seven technical units where around 130 Civil Engineers work processing patent applications, as well as a patent administrative unit which checks that applications are formally correct. Further, the department includes among other things a section that is responsible for patent information, a legal section and a process owner responsible for the routines and work processes involved when dealing with a patent application.
