Would you like to foresee the future? Look in the rear-view mirror!
Foreseeker™ forecasts technological development.
In which phase of development is a particular technology or a particular area of technology? This is a key question for companies which develop and market technology-based services and products. The Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) has now made it possible to forecast the future. PRV is the first on the market to offer this type of business intelligence tool which is based on patent information.
Technological development in a particular field of technology is simulated in the new service Foreseeker. A Foreseeker analysis is based on patent data and its results respond to a number of strategic questions. It also includes the use of advanced mathematical methods to simulate a forecast of future development. The results are an important basis for strategic decisions that can save significant amounts of money since the results can help companies to increase the reliability of the assessments of when and where technologies should be developed or phased out.
Foreseeker creates new opportunities
Foreseeker is developed by the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV). Ervin Dubarić, who along with Omar Al-Askary, is one of the creators and architects of the service:
“With the help of Foreseeker, it becomes possible to see further into the future than what we are accustomed to. It can make a major difference for a company’s competitiveness. Foreseeker minimizes decisions making based on guessing the future of technological a development.” says Ervin Dubarić.
A Foreseeker-analysis consists of four parts
1. The development of a technology or a technological area
Foreseeker visualizes the technological development within a specific technology or technological area.
2. Trends
The technological development within an area consists of various sub-technologies. The trends analysis indicates how the sub-technologies have progressed in relation to each other.
3. Predicting future technological development
Based on facts retrieved from patent databases and the use of advanced mathematical methods, it is possible to forecast future prospects of specific sub-technologies.
4. Citations of sub-technologies
An analysis of how many times a patent application has been cited provides an opportunity to evaluate the strength of a patent or a patent portfolio.
A Foreseeker analysis creates new opportunities for research and technology intensive companies. In addition, the analysis facilitates the decision making process for investors who are planning on investing in these type of companies.
