The PRV school - Patents

Patent owners gain a territorial monopoly right of use for a limited period. Without the patent owner‘s consent no other may use the patented product, by making, offering for sale, putting on the market or importing it for the mentioned purposes, or possessing it. Exemptions to this exists.

What is a patent?

When an invention is patented, it becomes public, but the inventor is granted the exclusive right to decide how it is used. Patents are granted for technical solutions that are new, involve an inventive step, and meet formal requirements. Discoveries, theories, artistic works, business methods and pure computer programs cannot be patented.

The application must clearly describe the invention and include claims, an abstract and drawings. The purpose of patent law is to share technical knowledge and encourage further innovation and development.
