The PRV school - Patents
A patent is used to protect a novel technical solution to a problem and gives an exclusive right to use an invention. If you want exclusive rights to your invention and to prevent competitors from using it without paying for it, you should apply for a patent.

What is a patent?
When an invention is patented, it becomes public, but the inventor is granted the exclusive right to decide how it is used. Patents are granted for technical solutions that are new, involve an inventive step, and meet formal requirements. Discoveries, theories, artistic works, business methods and pure computer programs cannot be patented.
The application must clearly describe the invention and include claims, an abstract and drawings. The purpose of patent law is to share technical knowledge and encourage further innovation and development.
