Your patent application must include

  • an application form
  • a description of the invention
  • one or more patent claims
  • an abstract
  • drawings, if any
  • a filing fee

The description, patent claims, abstract and drawings are submitted as appendices to your application form. The first versions filed of the description, patent claims and any drawings are called the basic documents and you have limited scope to change them once they have been filed with PRV.

You can file your application in Swedish or in English. A patent can be granted in either Swedish or English.

The documents you submit will be the basis for your potential patent and form the material for the printed patent specification. Therefore, make sure your documents are clear from the start and that they follow the guidelines for how a patent application should be drafted.

International Type Search (ITS)

If you want to apply for a patent in several countries, you have the option to request an International Type Search (ITS) as a complement to your Swedish patent application.
