Information regarding accelerated search for patents

Pilot project for certain technical fields.

As of February 1st, 2019, it is possible to request an accelerated search of a national patent application if certain conditions are fulfilled. In such a case, PRV will issue a first notice regarding the patentability after 4 months from the filing date of the application.

The request may only be made in connection with the filing of the application and only if the application is filed through one of our online filing services.

This is a pilot project for certain technical fields and an accelerated search will only be granted for applications in these technical fields. At present, these technical fields pertain to the field of chemistry. A complete list of the included IPC-classes and technical fields can be found here.

If a formal notice has to be issued, or if the demand for accelerated searches is high, PRV might not be able to grant the request. In that case, PRV will notify the applicant that the request cannot be granted.
